This month’s LearnDash customer spotlight is Carey Nieuwhof: an author, entrepreneur, leader, and coach. Carey uses LearnDash to deliver online courses to train better community leaders, church leaders, and entrepreneurs.

Carey Nieuwhof is a best-selling leadership author, speaker, podcaster, former attorney, and church planter. He has extensive experience helping organizations lead through change and deepen their personal growth. Carey’s mission is to help folks become better leaders by teaching his clients how to live in a way today that will help them thrive tomorrow.

Let’s take a look at how Carey created a successful business using LearnDash.

Thoughtful course bundling

When you land on Carey’s homepage, you’ll find a clean layout with appealing colors and clear calls to action. A navigation sticky bar follows you as you browse, letting you easily jump to different parts of the site.

The pillar of Carey’s website is his on-demand course offerings. When you hover over “Courses and Academy” in the navigation, Carey’s impressive course list appears, all built with LearnDash.

The Art of Leadership Academy is Carey’s premiere course offering, showing thoughtful course bundling at its best. The academy landing page is comprehensive, giving the learner insight into how the courses operate and how they’ll help.

Pricing is clear and offers two options with a money-back guarantee. For folks who need to know a little more before they purchase, an FAQ below the pricing provides guidance to ensure confidence in purchasing.

Extensive use of LearnDash features

Once you log in as a learner into Carey’s Academy, you’ll see richly designed courses using some of LearnDash’s hallmark features.

First up is the Academy’s use of the Course Grid feature. The LearnDash Course Grid add-on displays your courses in a functional and visually appealing grid format.  The Course Grid also includes several features to improve the display of your courses. You can choose your columns, sort and number your courses, filter courses by tag, show only enrolled courses, hide or show images or course descriptions, add CTA buttons, and allow for search.

Carey’s Academy makes use of the enrolled feature, images, and course descriptions to keep learners informed and on track with their courses.

Playing with Course Grid settings can help folks find registered courses faster and keep learners engaged on your site.

Next up is the use of Achievements.  The LearnDash Achievements add-on gives you the ability to add and display achievement banners and award points to learners. Gamifying your course experience adds a sense of compulsion to complete the activity.

For the Art of Leadership Academy, Carey has included a progress bar to show completion filled in after each lesson in the course. Users feel encouraged to keep going with the entire course to see the progress bar filled in to 100%. It also helps users track where they left off when they return to the course.

Finally, the “My Account” page is a great hub for learners to track everything related to their enrollment. This is done by adding the LearnDash Profile Block/Shortcode along with any other blocks to create a custom account page.  Creating a profile or account page for your users gives them an easy way to access important features, such as enrolled and completed courses, certificates and points, and more. You can also add an avatar and edit your profile so other learners can see a bit more about their classmates.

Carey’s academy makes great use of the Profile Block/Shortcode feature so learners can easily track their progress by returning to their account page.
