WordPress has come a long way since its inception as primarily a blogging platform.

WordPress still makes for an excellent blog, but it does a lot of other things quite well too! Things like e-commerce, event management, membership sites, and learning management to name a few.

It is because of this flexibility that we see WordPress used in a variety of settings. One of the earliest adopters of WordPress outside of strictly blogging was higher education.

At first we saw classroom blogs, but those sites morphed into classroom resources. Today it has evolved further to classroom learning management systems. 

Higher Education + WordPress = WPCampus

You may not have known but last year was the first year of a WordPress event tailored specifically for the higher education community: WPCampus (not to be confused with “WordCamp U.S.” – the largest WordPress conference in the United States).

I tend to find topic specific events quite rewarding. It’s not that the general “WordPress” conferences and meetups aren’t good (they are great actually), it’s just that I find attendees of niche events all share very similar goals and aspirations. This naturally makes for some pretty meaningful conversations as you already know you have something in common with the others.

All of the presentation topics at this event are relating to using WordPress in a higher education setting.

The event this year is scheduled for July 14-15 in Buffalo, New York.
