Significant performance upgrades bring your LearnDash powered courses a best-in-class user experience.

I am thrilled to announce the next step in the progression of LearnDash in the form of Version 3.4!

While releasing cool new functionality is always fun, the focus on this release is more “under the hood” and will arguably have the most direct impact on your learning programs!

Specifically, LearnDash v3.4 pushes forward with huge performance improvements to minimize load time and maximize efficiency.

I will keep this at a high-level, but stick with me for a moment as it is about to get a little “geeky”.

In the previous version (v3.3) there was an average of 515 queries to the database, as shown below.

In LearnDash v3.4 this gets reduced to just 19 queries! A huge savings to say the least!

So what does this mean for your LearnDash courses?

Less queries helps the performance of your site as a whole by reducing the time needed to query different rows in your database. In turn, this can help considerably on large sites.

For example, using the old version of LearnDash meant that if you had 10 active users, 5,150 queries were being made.

Today in LearnDash v3.4, those same 10 active users would bring that query count down to only 190, a 96.31% savings on resources!

You (and your learners) will notice this improvement immidately, creating an improved experience for your courses.

Quizzing updates & adaptive learning are in the works.

The new performance improvements are just the first step towards a future where we can introduce exciting new course progression features (adaptive learning anyone?). With these “under the hood” updates implemented, we now are able to build upon a rock-solid foundation for this exciting new capability. 🙂

In addition, keep an eye out for future updates where we will be making improvements (and adding highly requested features) to quizzes!

This sounds great!

Any ETA for adaptive learning? This has been something we’ve been searching for, for a while.

Keep up the great work!

Hello,

This is great. But after the update half my content is gone?!
How is that possible?

JasperReply

Try updating to the current version (v3.4.0.1).

Adaptive learning, eg? I was just thinking about that recently and wanted to drop a line and ask if that was in the works. Cool!

Donal ElstedReply

Impressive improvement, thanks!

are personality/assessment-based quizes in the works? I’d really rather NOT be working on re-building my quiz in another platform if it’s coming soon to LD!

Hi Lisa-
This is possible with the assessment question type to some degree. There aren’t any plans to extend this functionality at the moment.

I will second, well “third”, that for adaptive learning!

This is fantastic! Great news!

Awesome! I’ll give it a try tonight 🙂

Why can’t I update to 3.4 yet?

Hi Sangram, it should be arriving soon for you. Let us know if you don’t see it.

I’m not receiving the update yet.

GerardReply

Awesome! Adaptive Learning – wow – soon please! 🙂

Excelente equipo LearnDash, sigan así. 🙌💪

Hello! Thanks for this update, I can’t find updated version on my account area, can only download LearnDash v3.3.0.3. When will it be available?

SimoneReply

If you don’t see it today then let us know!

When will the 3.4 be available for download?

If you don’t happen to see it yet it will be available shortly.

Hi, what tool or plugin did you use to list those “amount of queries”? I’d like to use this for my own debugging for other plugins. And thanks for this update, a customer of me will be really happy with it 🙂

RensReply

Alright, I would like to update if possible, but how? I can see no instruction on how to upgrade?!

Hi Richard – if you don’t see the update yet then it should be coming soon for you.

Cool

But I’ll like you do something to automatically enroll customer when a purchase is done with woocommerce even for existing user, not only for new users 🙁

THIS IS HUGE. I’m updating immediately!!!! Thank you!

Great !

Any update on achievements add on? It was meant to release by end of Q1 2021 so only a few days left. It has already been delayed many times..

CallumReply

Hi Justin,

I wrote a comment about achievements add-on but you didn’t reply.
It was announced close to 2 years ago and there has been many false hopes given that it will be released and it hasn’t. Same again this time, Jack has been saying for months that it would be released Q1 in 2021 yet now Q1 is over and no update. Surely LD should have accountability and actually update why a add-on or announced feature doesn’t make release date? So many times this has happened. We are trying to run businesses, this is our livelihoods. We need reliable communication on proposed features. Your sales website for 6 months has said achievements points badges etc are available in LD out of the box and it’s not?

Thank you, this is definitely a welcome improvement 🙂

Sounds great! Justin you talked some time ago about updating the focusmode. When is that happening? Need it for speciaal prople work with.

WilcoReply

Any update on this?

W. DeschouwerReply

I will request for speech recognition as input for the quiz.

Hi there,

LearnDash is the core structure of my E-learning site very rich in function, but rather heavy in ressource.

But since I updated it to 3.4, I really noticed a real impact in page charging spead.

Thank you for your great efforts !

That’s what we like to hear! 🙂

Hello,
Finally, it’s good news for your update.
We are using version 3.1.7 and have been using it for over a year. We did a lot of overloading with our theme, especially on the navigation in the courses and the quizzes. We would like to know if there are a lot of changes to be made between the current version and the version we are currently using.

Thank you for your comeback.

VictorReply

Congratulations Justin!

We do some low level database queries to report on (for example) who has done what quiz. Are there any database schema changes involved?

Thanks

That’s great news!

Would love to see some better course analytics built in so we can see at a glance which were our most popular or most viewed courses each month – maybe an addition to Pro Panel? – bit of a nightmare to set something like that up in google analytics when courses have several sections and pages.

Keep up the great work!

I have been building my site which is not launched yet (WordPress 5.7, WooCommerce, Divi Theme, LearnDash) and am experiencing a bug that only cropped up recently where certain test enrolled users are not able to access the course content through any of the known means (back to course button, lesson list, etc). The buttons either disappear, or the buttons/areas send the user to the course page. I can’t imagine WordPress/Woocommerce/Divi/LearnDash is an obscure combination?

I have contacted support twice and not received a solution. I am an experienced WordPress user and have tried all traditional troubleshooting, to no avail.

I was told by support that for some of their solutions for course access, the user needed to have completed 1 lesson. But how does that user access the first lesson, then?

I see that this update contacts “return to current lesson button.” Where is this feature available? And might it solve the problems I have been having? Is there help for my case? My second support ticket has not been responded to and was placed on March 21st. I really need help before I abandon a platform I have spent months learning. 🙁

Hi Emma, post your ticket ID # and a support lead follow-up.

ID: 215702 – placed on March 21st. Let me know if I need to open a new ticket.

Where is the new return to current lesson button found?

After the update none of my students can get on to the course content.

I keep experiencing “page not found”

Log in works
Clicking on the course works

Then we get page not found.

Can I get some advice?

Make sure you’re on current version (3.4.0.1 as of this comment) then try resetting permalinks. If it still does not work, contact support with admin & ftp access as well as a link to the impacted page. Thanks!

How to assign lessons to courses and topics to lessons after the update? The option from before the update has gone.

Truly awesome stuff Justin. I look forward to the new innovations, especially additional quizzes you mentioned.

Hello Justin

I am missing the easy front end editing functionality for multiple instructors that the Tutor LMS provides.

Any change Learndash will add this functionality any time soon?

Kind regards
