You Don’t Need to be an “Expert”

stacking-coinsI think as people we all suffer from many of the same insecurities.

In the context of creating and selling an online course, the most common insecurity I come across is that people believe they are not enough of an “expert” in the topic of their course.

And as a result, they never follow-through with their course idea.

What makes this particularly troublesome is that this limitation is self-imposed. People who convince themselves that they aren’t experts potentially miss out on a lot of money.

Here’s the secret: the only difference between you and someone who has created a course is that they didn’t listen to that voice telling them they weren’t good enough!

Expert is a Loaded Term

If you think about it, “expert” is kind of a loaded term.

What makes an “expert”? Is it a professional degree or a specific number of years of experience? A mix of both perhaps?

The reality is that experts are defined differently by everyone so there really aren’t any rules for defining an expert.

And guess what? If there aren’t any hard-set rules for defining an expert, that means there isn’t any one person or organization that is responsible for giving someone the expert “title”.

In fact, YOU are the one that ultimately can give yourself this title.

The truth is, titles are cheap. You can proclaim yourself an expert today – this very second.

What people are looking for in an online course isn’t a title, or an expert, it’s information!

You can share with your prospective customers stories from your background on how you obtained this information and why it’s of value.

In the end, this makes you an expert. You know something that they want to learn so they pay to be taught what you know.

So if you have been wanting to create an online course (and even sell one), stop waiting for outside factors to deem you an expert – it will never happen.

Just give yourself permission.

And when you do, send us a note and we can help make your course selling business a reality.
