How to Connect a Domain

Connecting a domain with LearnDash allows you to change the vanity domain that you’re assigned at signup like GreenApple.mylearndash.com with your actual domain.

Domains can either be purchased via LearnDash in your account area or you can connect an existing domain you own.

How to Access Your Site Details

To connect your domain you need to first access your site details:

  1. Go to account.learndash.com/sites
  2. Click the arrow icon on the site you want to access

How to Buy and Connect a Domain

  1. Once inside your Site Details, click Domains
  2. Then click Get A Domain under the Add New Domain section
  3. This will display the search box to purchase a domain. Enter in your preferred domain including the top level domain part (TLD), e.g. .com, .co.uk. .net, .org, etc. And click Search.
  4. You’ll need to wait between 15-60 seconds on average and then the search results will be returned.
  5. Click on the shopping cart icon to add the domain to your basket.
  6. Note: Currently LearnDash Cloud only allows for one domain to be mapped to the site at any one time which means you cannot checkout for multiple domains at once.

  7. Upon clicking the shopping cart icon you’ll be automatically redirected to the LearnDash checkout. This is the same checkout information and login you used when purchasing LearnDash Cloud. Once you’ve finished the checkout process you’ll be sent back to the account area.

You’ll see a message letting you know that the domain is in the process of being set up and will be available to be connected shortly.

It takes on average 5-10 minutes for the set up to be completed and then you’ll be able to connect your domain.

Before Connecting Your Domain

When you purchase a domain via LearnDash, LearnDash controls the DNS records and automatically configures everything for you. That doesn’t mitigate the usual DNS propagation process which can take up to 48 hours. Which means when you click on “Connect” your site may be inaccessible to both you and your users.

You should only click “Connect” when you are truly ready to go live and start having users access your website.

Finishing Connecting Your Domain

Click on “Connect” and then the LearnDash process will automatically run and configure your site. At this stage the following takes place.

  • Finding and replacing all URLs on your website to replace the vanity domain with your live domain.
  • Setting up a new SSL certificate and configuring that for your live domain.
  • Creating and setting DNS records to make your website live to the world.

While the domain is being set up you should see a message like this:

You’ll also notice now in the account area the URL has already updated.

There’s no automatic notice for when propagation has finished so we’d advise clearing your browser cache after a few hours and checking if your site is accessible.

Post Domain Connection

Now your site is connected to your domain your login URL will be at example.com/wp-admin. Where example.com is the domain you purchased or connected.

If you need to make DNS updates for example connecting a mail provider like Outlook, Google Apps for Work or other providers you should contact our support team who can assist with getting those records added.
