New Integration For Selling Courses!

LearnDash Updates latestOne important feature of LearnDash is that it is easy to start selling courses. All you need to do is add your PayPal email address, a price, and click “publish” to start selling.

As easy as this process makes it for you to start selling courses quickly, we also know that there can be benefits to using a feature-packed shopping cart for selling courses on your WordPress site.

Rather than re-invent the wheel, we have made it a priority to integrate with these great solutions.

Today we are excited to announce a new integration with one of the most popular solutions on the market…

Sell Courses With EDD

What is Easy Digital Downloads?

Easy Digital Downloads (EDD) was created by Pippin Williamson, a developer known for creating high-quality and well supported products. With over 400,000 downloads, EDD is one of the most popular shopping carts for WordPress.

In addition to being a powerful solution, EDD comes with a large number of add-ons (both free and paid) so that you can really customize the shopping experience for your unique needs.

Key Features of the Integration

Easy course mapping: When you create a product in Easy Digital Downloads, you can quickly map a course to the product from the LearnDash course selection box.

Associate one, or multiple courses: Decide if you want to associate one course, or multiple courses, to your Easy Digital Downloads product. Perfect for creating course bundles.

Auto-User Enrollment: After successful purchase, the integration will auto-enroll the customer into the course so that they can begin taking the content.

Works with any payment gateway: Choose any payment gateway offered by Easy Digital Downloads and use it to accept payment for your courses.

How To Use EDD with LearnDash

To get started with the integration, all you need to do is install and activate:

  1. LearnDash
  2. Easy Digital Downloads
  3. LearnDash-Easy Digital Downloads integration (no settings necessary)

Yes, it’s that simple! You can now start selling courses with EDD. Of course, you can customize the selling process even further by leveraging one of their popular add-ons.

The integration is available for download on the support site.

What’s Next?

Our current developments are on a few different fronts. First, you can expect additional integrations so that you can leverage other popular applications in conjunction with LearnDash.

In addition to those, we are nearly complete with an update to ProPanel. The original release of this enhancement was delayed slightly because we wanted to extend ProPanel capabilities to Group Leaders, which required some additional development and testing. Oh, and Group Leader capabilities are getting a face-lift as well 😉

Until next time!

  1. Easy Digital Downloads integration is a great thing ! I disover the plugin recently and it is really a killer one ! It is nice that it is now integrated with LearnDash 🙂

    • It really is a matter of personal preference at the end of the day because they all pretty much do the same thing i.e. get you the same results. Also, when you consider that they’re free there’ll not be much between them compared to other options that might do more (for a price).

      Hope this helps.

Having put myself through hours of fighting with the settings of jigoshop to get it to smoothly and neatly integrate with my theme I am not sure whether to road test EDD or wait until the next time jigoshop springs an unpleasant surprise.

  2. Hi Justin –

Thanks for the recommendation. I knew about it but wasn’t too sure about it for some reason, but your post about it (as simple as it is) made a difference. I’ll be testing it on one of our sites and have no doubt it’ll be a great tool.

    Cheers.

EDD is awesome. Thanks for making this happen. Your instructions are a bit too brief for this newbie though. I’ve installed all the plugins and got it mostly working. How to I set the LearnDash course so that the customer automatically gets access once the payment is complete via EDD? I could not see a way to do that.
    thanks

    • Hi Steve-
Thanks for the note. Try setting the LearnDash course price to “CLOSED”, and then put the URL of the EDD product into the custom button URL field. Happy to help if you need further assistance, just open a thread in the forum.

  4. Do you know if there is away I can accomplish registration for in person classes with a combination of LearnDash and EDD.

What I want to do is register people and collect payment for an in person class. The big question is, “can I cut off registrations at a certain number of attendees?”

    Hi Justin

I have already asked about the possibility of protecting my media Folders from being accessed by anyone who is not logged in (including protection from indexing by robots). I don’t want any images or other media embedded in courses from being accessed by anyone not logged in/robots. I am not interested in selling any individual files.

If you can imagine, when I build a page, it will contain embedded images and audio/video media, plus the option for users to download pdfs, Word Files, mp3s associated with the course.

Could EDD still work for me?

  7. I was facing this issue before i installed EDD. My users which i had enrolled (who came to my class and paid) as users from wordpress and some how not able to see the course now. Even though the course is showing up in their enrolled list.
Now i added EDD thinking may be this might resolve my issue. I am facing the same problem again.
Any idea on what could be the reason ?

  8. Can Easy digital downloads be used to sell subscription levels connected to learndash courses, or should I first create subscriptions levels in learndash? What’s the best way to do this?

I want to create a training site on a particular niche which would offer multiple courses. I require users to be able to sign-up to any course from a single user account and upsell courses. Ideally this all takes place in a single learning environment. Is this something possible with LearnDash?

    • Hi Al-
There are multiple ways to go about selling courses and offering up-sells. You’ll likely need to use a shopping cart to make it happen (such as WooCommerce, JigoShop, EasyDigitalDownloads, or iThemes Exchange).

    Hi Justin,
I downloaded both plugins (EDD and EDD LD) and changed the default setting of EDD to Amazon but when I click on “take this course” button on the course page, it still takes me to paypal. I have a feeling that this is not an issue with EDD but the fact that the only option in course LearnDash payment setting is paypal. I don’t want my users to go to paypal and instead I want them to go to Amazon or Stripe (which I’m gonna but the EDD add-on later). Would you please help me with that?
    Thanks
