February 26th, 2014 Announcements

LearnDash UpdatesToday we are pleased to release two new back-end features, both of which the direct result of conversations we have had in the support forums.

Before jumping into the details, we want to first thank you for all of your continued involvement in LearnDash’s feature development. Your comments and suggestions have been very much appreciated.

Without further ado, let’s get onto the updates…

Focusing on the Admin Experience

The last update focused primarily on front-end visuals, whereas this update is to help make life a little easier from a user and course management standpoint.

While we know you want your users to enjoy their experience with your LearnDash powered courses, we also understand that you want ease-of-use from an administration perspective as well.

Group (Mass) Course Enrollment

The LearnDash grouping feature makes it possible to organize users into specific groups based on class or department. With this new update, you can now enroll an entire group of users into one or more courses with the click of a button!

Besides saving time with the manual enrollment process, one additional benefit of this update is that you can now drip content to your users at the exact same time. Simply create a group, select the course(s) they should be enrolled in, and click “SAVE”.

If you have drip (scheduled) content for your courses, all the users will now be delivered the content on the same schedule.

To use this new feature, just go to USERS > LEARNDASH GROUPS from your dashboard.

Course Organization Filters

We know that many of you are using LearnDash to deliver a large number of courses. Naturally, as you start to build out lessons, topics, and quizzes, it can all become quite a bit to manage. That’s why with this latest update we have introduced new back-end filters!

The mappings include:

  • Lesson to Course mapping
  • Topic to Lesson mapping
  • Topic to Course Mapping
  • Quiz to Course Mapping

Need to see find a Topic for a specific Lesson? No problem, just use one of the filters!

Restructuring of Folders

In addition to the two items above, we restructured many of the LearnDash folders and removed some hardcoded elements to allow for easier templating. With this in place, creating themes around LearnDash just became a little bit easier.

Again, we want to thank you for your continued faith in our product and service. To return the favor, you can expect continual updates to our WordPress LMS! ๐Ÿ™‚

Until next time!

So glad to hear about the mass enrollment. I spend all of Dec manually enrolling students into groups. This will make it so much easier in the future!

Avatar Ashley

Glad to hear it will be useful – thanks Ashley!

Hi Justin,

great updates! is there progress in terms of incorporating the quiz scores from Articulate courses in the Leaderboard vs. having to create a seperate quiz?

Thank you.

Avatar Frank Natt

Hi Frank-
Thanks for the note, one of the many things still very much on our radar ๐Ÿ™‚

Really hope this is coming real soon. ๐Ÿ™‚

Avatar svenseco

Thanks a lot justin, for all the changes ๐Ÿ™‚

You’re very welcome, thanks Prabhat!

Thanks. I want to look at that Course Organization Filters as without that function I was mired and becoming essentially unproductive.

Justin,
I have applied the update. When I attempt to use the filters it does not return results as expected.
Any sage advice?

Happy to take a look, go ahead and open a thread on http://support.learndash.com with some more specifics

Great update Justin. Trying to manage more than a dozen courses was proving to be tough. The filters are exactly what I needed. Your plugin just keeps getting better. Keep up the great work Jusin. Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words Bill!

Really enjoying using LearnDash. It’s such an easy tool to use in our WordPress community site.
Keep the changes coming and look forward to the next batch of new features ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you Hamish, don’t worry, we’ll certainly keep the features coming ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks Justin,

For making our working life easier again!

What does this mapping mean? Can’t translate it to Dutch to understand.
Lesson to Course mapping
Topic to Lesson mapping
Topic to Course Mapping
Quiz to Course Mapping

Avatar wilco

Hi Wilco-
Thanks for the note. It essentially means that when you are looking at your Lesson list, you will see which course it belongs to; when you look at your topic list, you will see the lesson it belongs to; etc.

The rate at which you are improving this plugin is simply amazing! Just Yesterday I was frustrated that I could not filter my lesson topics.. and look! Good stuff!

If you could support integration with Buddypress/BBpress it would be really amazing – It would be awesome if students could be automatically given access to a specif BBpress section/topic based on the course they have entered.

Good work!

Avatar Hendre

Thanks Hendre, sounds like good timing! Will certainly take note of your suggestions – feel free to submit them as well.

I support this request: Buddypress & BBpress integration

Avatar Alessandro

Me too!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Avatar Torgrim

Thanks for the updates Justin. Keep making it easier for admins to get the job done. More automation, less manually interventions. ๐Ÿ™‚

Avatar Vaughn

Can’t wait to implement the upgrade.

Thanks so much

K

Do you have an outline/schematic of the information architecture of LearnDash? Especially with the new course filters seems there are interesting ways to link content to courses, trying to see if it fits my needs.

Avatar Matt Scofield

Hi Matt-
Thanks for the note. Feel free to send us a note with some more details and we will try to provide applicable feedback for your situation.

Hi Justin
We have made changes to the language files, when we upgrade, will we need to make all the translations again? Or are the language files not affected?

Thanks

Hi Calum-
Make sure to save your translations to another folder and after updating just drag & drop them via ftp and it will revert to your translated files.

Awsome work, thrilled about the filtering. Thank you.

Avatar Andrew Freeth

Thanks a lot once again Justin for making it easier for us (not 2 techy teachers ๐Ÿ™‚ developing these kind of really handy features. At this moment topics can only be assigned to ONE course (and one lesson) Any plans for expanding this to more courses and lesson?

Hi Guillermo-

Thanks for the note. Many of the items you mention are items we are looking into – but please do submit your specific requests at the support site.

Great! Thanks for course organization filter!
Hope there will be similar thing for quizzes as when you got lots of quizzes that is difficult to assign them to needed lesson topic) Anyway, great update, I really happy with such frequency of updates)

“It would be awesome if students could be automatically given access to a specif BBpress section/topic based on the course they have entered.”

that would be a very powerful feature!

Avatar andre

“At this moment topics can only be assigned to ONE course (and one lesson) Any plans for expanding this to more courses and lesson?”

this would be an amazing feature as well. No need to duplicate lessons anymore then..

btw I love that learndash integrates with exchange!

Avatar andre

Many thanks Andre, glad you are enjoying it so far!

I got the following message “An error occurred while updating LearnDash LMS: The package could not be installed. The package contains no files.” Any ideas? Thank you

Avatar Dani

Hi Dani-
Check to ensure your credentials are correct via the ACCOUNT tab on the support site. If you still have issues, feel free to open a support ticket.

Thanks a lot ! The filter topics saved me and my project ๐Ÿ™‚

Avatar khalid

I have about 15000 user, but this mass enrollment just keep about 10% from all of my user? What should i do? Forced it into database or something?

Avatar Evan

Hi Evan-

Happy to help. Send us a note from the support site so that we can investigate further.

When I enroll a student to a course, how can I make the student to receive a mail about this action?

Avatar Bunmi

Hey Justin

I’d like to automatically enroll in a certain course, every new user whose email address ends with a particular domain (@la-inyan.com). Is this possible right now?

Hi Ami-

That sort of automation isn’t currently possible, sorry. It would need some form of custom dev.

Hi Justin,

Which is the filter(function) to send invitations to users to enroll them to a group?

Avatar Sugury

No such filter/function exists currently.

Is there a way to add an individual user to a course? I only see an option to add a group, but what if instead of adding a group of people to a course I’d rather add a single person to a group of courses…how can that be done?

Avatar Kristin

Yes, from the user’s profile.

Hi Justin – a quick question about group enrollment…
If I have a course that is set to expire access after 90 days and a user is giving access to that course (via group enrollment), will course access expire like normal for that user even though they are assigned that group?

Yes – they will be removed 90 days after enrollment (even if added to the course via a group).

Hello Justin,

Can you tell me where in database learndash store the data about course assign to members. I am using learndash and memberpress

There is no such thing as: ‘USERS > LEARNDASH GROUPS’.

What is the easy for me to
– have a list of people (names, emails)
– give them access to the course as a group
– without buying the pricey add on?

Thanks!

Avatar Jeremy

Hi Justin,
if i sell course with woocommerce and use membership add-on, i can subscribe costumer on a group and than enrolled all student in the same time, right?
And when the membership anded, also the access to course enrolled by group ended?
The start date of membership is the day of order and not the day of group enrolled, right?
Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Giacomo, did you get a response about this functionality yet? I am also interested in this feature.

Avatar Angela Weedy

Hi Justin,

I have a question, too: How do I limit the number of enrollees in a purchased course? For example, let’s say I want to run a workshop for up to ten students, but no more than that. How do I accomplish this without requiring the emails for each student beforehand? Each student’s email may not always be known at the time of purchase of a course.

Overall, I love LearnDash — it makes course creation and management much easier than other LMS platforms.

Avatar Brian

Hi! Thank you for all your amazing help. Is there any way to sell group enrollment? I mean, I have a course with 4 groups created, each one has a group leader (or teacher), and I want to know the way to enroll the students who click on TAKE THE COURSE in a group of a course instead of only in a course. Thanks!
