Truth is that the elearning industry is enormous. While many people only think of courses when they hear the word “elearning”, it actually is better used as an umbrella term.

ELearning can consist of instructional design, elearning courses, massive open online courses (MOOCs), rapid development software, learning management systems, mobile learning, social learning, online forums, digital evaluation methods, and various other tools relating to each of these areas.

In other words: elearning is a loaded term.

It is because of the size of this industry and its sub-categories that we have a wide-range of facts and figures. While most facts are very specific to the niche, there is one general trend across them all.

Among each sub-section of elearning we are seeing positive growth. More money is being invested, more people are using the tools and techniques, universities are relying more upon elearning, professionals in this field are getting paid more, and demand (across all areas) is increasing.

If you’re involved in this industry then this is all great news as the positive trend is projected to continue into the foreseeable future.
