November 4th, 2015 LearnDash Tips

Today we are pleased to share with you the release of two new LearnDash extensions both centered around course creation.

Specifically, one will help you speed up your course creation while the other offers a new way for courses to be developed on your learning management system.

These two add-ons (one free and one premium) are brought to you by the vendor WisdmLabs.

Course Content Cloner

Course Cloner

This free add-on speeds up the course creating process by allowing you to instantly clone any course on your site. Once you create a general course format, adding other courses is just a click away!

Add-On Features

Duplicate course hierarchy – With the click of a button you can immediately clone an entire course including lessons, topics, and quizzes. All content is placed into “draft” status.

Bulk title editor – After cloning an entire course, the bulk title editor makes it easy for you to change the title of the course, its lessons, topics, and quizzes eliminating the need to visit each item individually.

How It Works

Once installed and activated you will see a “clone course” option from your course list. In addition, there is a bulk title editor option added under the LEARNDASH LMS menu item.

After clicking “clone course”, the plugin will go through the process of creating duplicates of your course, including all associated lessons, topics, and quizzes.

Once complete, you will be prompted to bulk edit the titles.

Where To Download

This is a free add-on created by WisdmLabs. It is available for download on their website.

Front-End Course Creation

Front-end course design

This premium add-on makes it possible for LearnDash courses to be created on the front-end of the site. This is a perfect if you have multiple course authors and prefer that course creation happens outside of the WordPress dashboard.

Add-On Features

Front-end course creation – Any user who has the “Course Author” role can develop their courses (including quizzes) from the front-end of your site.

Block back-end access – Course Authors are prevented from accessing the standard WordPress administration pages or LearnDash settings.

BuddyPress compatible – Use in conjunction with BuddyPress so Course Authors can quickly create and manage their courses from their profile.

How It Works

Once installed and activated, this add-on will automatically create the pages where Course Authors can create their courses from the front-end of your site.

Where To Download

This is a premium add-on created by WisdmLabs. It is available for purchase on their website.

If you have any questions or comments related to these two add-ons, please do not hesitate to leave them below.

Until next time!

Thank you Justin for letting everyone know about the extensions.
We’re constantly working on LearnDash and coming up with new features through our addons and services.

We would appreciate if you drop your feedback regarding the extensions in the comments section here. You could also write us at [email protected] for any queries or support.

When cloning courses, My clients duplicated one of his courses for the 30, 45 and 60 day. The 15 day one, when paid for will let the subscriber see the videos. This does not happen with the ones I duplicated. How can I get this corrected?

Looks good!

Do you know whether the front-end creation plugin also allows front-end editing of existing courses? And how does Course Author fit with the Instructor-role?

Avatar Thomas

Hi Thomas,
Thanks for the comment. I do believe that the front-end course creation add-on is compatible with the instructor role add-on capabilities. WisdmLabs would need to confirm.

Hi Thomas,

Yes, the Front-End Course Creation plugin allows the course author to edit courses as well.

We are working towards having both the extensions compatible with each other to allow the authors have full capabilities in the front-end as well as the back-end. We also have other features lined up to increase the capabilities of the author using the Front-End Course Creation plugin.

We’ll keep you updated on this.

This is great news Justin! With Front-End Course Creator, why is Buddy Press required? Will this work on individual sites of a multi-site installation? I don’t want to set up a social network either for the multisite or the individual sites. Each site is its own individual entity. Would I be required to have Buddy Press Profiles for all my users – I don’t mind having them just for a few selected authors that would need to edit courses, but I’m not a big fan of those profiles and certainly don’t want all my users having them. Is there any way to see a demo or video of this plugin in action before purchasing. There are so few screenshots that I don’t have a good enough idea of the workflow and whether it will serve my needs.

Thanks for continuing to make LearnDash such an amazing product.

Hi Steve,

Yes, you do need BuddyPress along with the Front-End Course Creation plugin. The reason we’ve built it with BuddyPress is to be able to maintain the course author profiles in the front-end.

At present there is a User Guide present along with screenshots to help you understand the working of the plugin. We will soon have a live demo up for you to try and I’ll be sure to notify you once this happens.

Great add-ons!

Is the WooCommerce integration all that is needed to use WooCommerce Memberships (from SkyVerge) to work with LearnDash?

Also, how to work it with ActiveCampaign? (via Zapier…?)

Avatar Peter Fallenius

This is a little off-topic for this post, but I think that the WooCommerce integration will enable us to use Memberships and Subscriptions. I will be testing that in the next week or so to see if it works.

Sounds interesting. It could be nice if the cloning tool permits also to export a full course to import it on another website. So we can work on our dev site.
I tried an import/export using the WordPress Export/Import Tool and the result was a real mess 🙁

Hi Cedric,

Thank you for the suggestion.

I’ll have to discuss this with my team. In case we plan on something like this, I’ll be sure to notify you here.

I second this request. I just created a course and decided to put it in another site as well. Will have to repeat the whole process again, and it’s quite time consuming…

Any update as to whether you can clone a course and export it so you can import it to another site?

Bump. This is an old request from 2015. This would be a significant improvement for development of course content to deployment

Avatar Tyler

I agree this would be immensely helpful. So confused you guys do not have it when literally every other LMS or Membership plugin I’ve used does have it.

Avatar Lauren

I’ll add my voice here in support of helping us export complete courses. I want to sandbox the whole build (it’s about 300 lessons across 7 courses) on our test domain and then switch it out all at once for an existing live system. That’s a daunting amount of repeat work and potentially a ton of down time. This would be a huge (huge) help.

Adding another vote in for this. Any movement on this, it’s been about 4 years since the original request. Thanks!

I don’t think Tarun/WisdmLabs monitors this blog post – you may wish to reach out to them directly.

This is great news Justin! I’ve been hoping for a way to duplicate courses for my client, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

Thanks for making this available to us Tarum! I look forward to giving your new add-ons a go.

Happy to hear you like them Brendon! 🙂

Hi Brendon,

Glad we could help you out with this add on. I look forward to your feedback regarding the plugin.

Hi Tarun,

Thanks for your reply. I have a multisite with several domains, each one is its own separate site. Can I use your plugin (and BuddyPress) for this. I can’t have one shared Buddypress for the whole multisite network. If I could do it separately for each sub-site then that would work for me.

Avatar Steve

The Course Clone Ad-On sounds GREAT! This way, I can now easily create child courses (mini courses) from parent courses. Thanks so much. Also very much looking forward to using the Front End tool as well.

Avatar David

That’s a good idea David! The add-on will certainly save you a lot of time.

Thanks Justin for the updates. Good job. Nice to know those options available. I will try them out when the need arises.

Avatar Theticus

Sounds good Theticus, thanks for the feedback!

It would be nice if the clone could work for lessons independently of courses as well. Sometimes I need to clone a lesson to put it into a different course, but don’t need to clone the whole course. So being able to choose between cloning a whole course or simply a single lesson would be valuable to me.

Nice idea but I am still waiting for an update on when WISDM Labs Front-end Course Creation will be compatible with BuddyBoss Social Learner for LearnDash. I hope they will fix it soon.

I have been in contact with WISDM Labs support and they have been able to fix most of the issues I was having including a potenital security bug which allowed users with role ‘Course Author’ to edit other WP pages. I now look forward to the next plugin update so I can use it on my live site as well.

Tell me more! I’m having issues too!! When I contacted them they blamed it on Learndash!! What issues were you expeinceing??

Is the Clone Course plugin still supported? I cannot find it in my course list as the instructions say. Latetes version of LD & CC installed.

Avatar Dale

Hi, Just installed the plugin. For whatever reason it is not cloning the lesson and topics. Any idea why this might be. I just purchased and installed the latest plugins from Learndash. Using the latest version of WP as well. I need to clone my courses 5 times and assign them to 5 different instructors. You help is appreciated.

Avatar Joe

Hi Joe, you’ll want to raise support requests with the add-on developers. Haven’t noticed any of these issues on our dev site.

Can we use front end course creation addon to create courses using instructor addon from front? They both are compatable or not, because I want to restrict instructor from backend and want all capabilities of instructor plugin on frontend.

Is this the only way to add a course author to a course?

Are you going to enable the course author to access course analytics like Instructor role?

Is there a way to import quizzes directly (if all questions are of only one type, say the multiple choice type) into LearnDash, without paying $$$ for expensive plugins? e.g. a quiz can be created in Excel with defined fields and then exported as an XML file that can be imported in LearnDash?

How do I allow all users of my website to publish courses and monetize them using learndash plugin? I want to make a website where anyone can publish a course.

Avatar Krishna Purohit

Use the Instructor Role add-on.

If anyone has a (better) solution for export of ALL course content from DEV to PRODUCTION I’m all ears. We have a process for this but it is rather cumbersome and requires manual intervention. A solution here would be greatly appreciated and I’m certain would be welcomed by the community.

Avatar Tyler

I’d love to know your process, would you mind emailing me some details? [email protected]

Avatar Jon

It would be great if there were an official Course/Lesson/Topic bulk creation or Import & Export tool. The closest thing I found was an excel add-on ( ) but it wasn’t cheap so I ended up going with a tool I already had access to ( ) and then created additional content in the custom CSV file it generates. It definitely did the job but still felt like there should be an easier to manage solution for this workflow.

I’m going down the same path now with WP All Import. Can you give me any advice on which “additional content” you added to the CSV to get Lessons/Quizzes to stay attached to their Courses? Any help would greatly appreciated!

Avatar Andrew

To all of you out there who want to export/import courses and lessons.

The default WP import/export tool works perfectly for this job.
No need for the developers to implement anything.

Avatar Roberto

Hello to everybody,

This plugin permits me to clone courses, but not lessons or quizzes as they mentioned. Is there any way to clone lessons, quizzes or questions? May you help me, please?
I will appreciate your help.
