10 Ways to Ruin Your ELearning

When creating any kind of elearning program, there is so much emphasis on the development best practices, effective planning principles, popular design models, and the like.

However, just as useful sometimes can be a list of things to avoid, or perhaps ways to ruin your elearning. Allen Interactions, a custom learning service provider, has put together a nice, short presentation on 10 different ways you can ruin your elearning. Without giving too much away, I can say that I have harped on number one for quite some time.

In fact, it may be possible that there is a different source to our problems – but I suppose that’s for another discussion. Tip number three seems obvious, but you would be surprised at the number of elearning courses that I have come across that still have this problem.

I am sure many of you could think of more ways you can easily ruin an elearning course (there are many ways in fact). That said, this short list by Allen Interactions is a good place to start.

Analyze your current elearning and see if any of these improvement areas are present, and if so, take the necessary steps to clean them up. Elearning courses should constantly be improved (they are never a one-shot deal), so there is no harm in making updates even after they have been launched.

Even if you can’t clean-up every item, start with the low-hanging fruit; the ones that can be fixed by simply adjusting some of the settings in your rapid elearning development program (for example, #3 is just a matter of checking a few boxes in Articulate).

Here are the 10 ways you can ruin your elearning – do they apply to your training?
