Stay Creative By Stepping Away

most-importantCreating courses is hard work. Fun, but hard. Whether you are creating a training program in a platform like Articulate Storyline, elearning plugin, or delivering your training live – it can all be quite draining.

That’s why it’s important to take a break every once in awhile. In fact, doing so will yield more benefits than you may originally think.

Taking some time away from course creation (or from your day-to-day job, no matter what industry) gives your brain a chance to “recharge”.

I personally find that after some time away I come back to work with not only more energy, but with more (and better) ideas.

By taking some time for yourself, your work will be better. In the context of elearning, your online courses will benefit. They will be better designed, developed, and ultimately delivered. If your courses are better then that means the people who are taking your course will also benefit. Taking a break has a positive snowball effect!

But taking a break isn’t easy for everyone. You know that there is always something to do with our work. Heck, some of you may even enjoy working so taking a break seems more like punishment!

Still, in order to be truly successful, you need to find a way to step away for a little bit. Do something that requires your full attention like reading a book or playing a board game. Limit your internet time to 25 minutes a day and don’t check work email!

After a few days, you’ll start to feel energized and you’ll be surprised at the new ideas that come into your head. So, do yourself (and your courses) a favor and take some time to get away!
